To test that my circuit board and pic chip were working properly, i created a simple circuit with a light sensor and downloaded a program onto the board for testing. Using the bread board also helped to start working out how to put a circuit together such as ensuring the +Volts and the ground are hooked up correctly, and there are no breaks in the circuit. I had to cut back part of the circuit board as the edge stopped the cable attaching to my board successfully.
fault finding
I was having problems with my circuit, as it appeared to be working correctly however all the LED'S kept cutting out indicating there was probably a loose connection somewhere in the circuit. Testing each wire in the circuit individually to see if had a loose connection led to the main circuit board on the +Volts rail. I had a break in the circuit where i had burnt through the copper track whilst soldering. In response to this problem solder was added to create a join and allow a flow. The problem was solved.
A few of the other connection on the main board were a little weak so the solder was re melted to make more positive joins
